Characteristic

Characteristic

It has flaps, dorsal crests, no gular or ventral crests, no horns, body length of about 20cm, body color is mainly green, brown, black and has no significant features compared to other species.

How to identify between similar species

The difference from the chamaele genus such as chamaeleo Dilepis that is found throughout Tanzania is the presence or absence of abdominal crest.

This species does not have an gular or ventral crest, but chamaeleo Dilepis chameleons have it.

Judging by body color is not recommended because there are species with large individual differences such as Chamaeleo Dilepis.

Habitat

This chameleon is often found in Mwakaleli village in Mbeya.

Please refer to Mbeya information for access to Mwakaleli.

The habitat is around 1700-2400m, with a maximum summer temperature of 30 ° C and a minimum winter temperature of about 10 ° C. It is an area where a lot of fog stands.

Red List says it lives in Mt. Ngozi and Mt. Rungwe, but I have never seen them there.

Where to find

The villagers can find it if you go to Mwkaleli because it is applicable to the farm at the foot of the mountain.

Like other chameleons, it seems to prefer a height of about 1-3m.
