Characteristic

Characteristic

The apparent characteristic is that many beards grow on the chin (throat). This beard is very soft in contrast with the appearance. In addition, the only chameleon (except pygmy) with a beard is Tanzania, so it can be identified by the beard.

* Beards grow in multiple rows, so be careful as they are different from other chameleon’s crests (thorn-like skin in a row).

How to identify between similar species

This is the only specie which have beard.

Habitat

The habitat is a plateau approximately an altitude of 1700m to 2200m, in the Udzungwa Mountains in Iringa and in Njungbae.

It is a species that also applies to villages, so if you go to villages in this area and ask villagers, they will find it. It is easy to find it near Mufindi in Iringa, and near the river on the west side of the Njombe city center.

There are observation records at the following markers.

Please refer to Njombe information and Iringa information for information about the area.

Where to find

According to Red List, it is near 1.5m above the surface, but I’ve seen it in more than 2m.

You will soon find it near the river.
