Kilimanjaro is a state in northeastern Tanzania.
Moshi is the main city.
This is where the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.
This area has a pygmy chameleon in the South Pair Mountains that can turn green which is rare for chameleons.
Three other chameleons can also be observed.
Chameleons can be observed in Mt. Kilimanjaro and Pair Mountains.
Click here for a list of chameleons.
Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.
It costs around 100 USD per day for entry fee, so it is not recommended to go to this mountain to find a chameleon, and there are no species that can only be found in this mountain.
For this reason, I will hand over explanations of this mountain to other websites.
South Pare Mountains(南ペア山地)
It is a mountain where Rhampholeon Viridis and Kinyongia Uthmoelleri subspecies inhabit, but each inhabitants seem to be slightly different.
Rhampholeon Viridis is located on the outskirts of the Chome Forest Reserve in the South Pair Mountains, and Kinyongia Uthmoelleri seems to live inside the Chome Forest Reserve.
Find Rhampholeon Viridis
This chameleon lives in the following marker location.
From the Same city bus terminal, take a bus to Gonja and change at Mahore to Kighare Parish. When you get to Kighare Parish, head to the valley bottom in the southwest. It is a good idea to ask locals for a guide. There is an irrigation channel at the bottom of the valley where you can find this chameleon.
You have to enter Chome Forest Reserve to find this species. Since the admission fee to a temple is required, go to the forest office, which is on the edge of the Same City. I think the location of the office is at the position of the following markers.
I’ve never been here so I don’t know exactly how to get there, there seems to be a gate in the southwestern reserve. Please check at the office.
